Paris Champagne Visitor Guide: Trains, Houses and Costs

Nobody sells you a ticket to Champagne. The region has no gate, and what you pay for is each house's cellar visit and tasting. So if you are pricing Paris Champagne tickets, what you are choosing is who pours, whether lunch comes with it, and how you get there.

Paris to Reims and Épernay: train, car or tour

The region lies about 150 km north-east of Paris. By TGV from Gare de l'Est you reach Reims in 45 minutes. Reims has two stations: Reims-Centre in the town and Champagne-Ardenne TGV at Bezannes, linked by tram. A TER line, the Ligne des Bulles, runs on from Reims to Épernay.

By road, Reims sits on the A4 motorway from Paris to Strasbourg. Part of the city is a low-emission zone, so your car needs a Crit'Air sticker, class 1 to 3. The tour operators allow about two hours each way by road.

What a house visit costs, and booking it

Each house sells its own visits on its own website, and you book there. These are the cheapest adult visits each one lists. A tour fare either carries these fees or leaves them to you, and each tour card says which.

Opening days and the winter closures

The houses keep their own calendars, and winter is when they differ most. Plan a January or February trip house by house.

Veuve Clicquot closed for the winter from 28 December 2025 and reopened on 7 April 2026. It opens every day from 29 June to 30 August, Tuesday to Sunday from 1 September to 1 November, and Wednesday to Sunday from 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
Moët & Chandon lists 9:30 to 17:00 daily and states no seasonal closure. One tour operator's listings say both houses close in January and February, so check your date on the house's own site.
Reims Cathedral opens every day from 8:00 and is free. The doors close at 19:30, or 19:15 on Sundays and feast days. On Sunday mornings until noon you reach only the entrance area.
The cathedral towers are seen on a guided visit at €9, free under 18. They close from 16 November to 14 February.
The Palais du Tau, beside the cathedral, is closed for works until 2027. Only a temporary shop is open.

In the cellars: 10 °C, stairs and damp

The houses age their wine in chalk cellars. About 25 km of them run under the Saint-Nicaise hill in Reims and 110 km under the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. They hold 10 to 12 °C all year, at 90 to 100% humidity.

So bring a layer, even in August. Wear flat shoes with grip, because you reach the cellars by stairs and the floors can be damp. Taittinger's cellars lie 18 metres down, in chalk quarries dug in Gallo-Roman times.

How long to allow

An afternoon gives you one kind of producer. A full day gives you both kinds and a long lunch. Two days let you see Reims and Épernay without a clock on either.

Children, non-drinkers and wheelchair users

Minimum ages vary by tour. Some set none, others start at 4, 7, 10 or 12, and some take adults only. Go Go Tours pours grape juice for under-18s. Several listings say the day is not recommended if you are pregnant.

Most tours say they do not suit wheelchair users, and the cellars are reached by stairs. Le Tour de Vigne's private day from Paris describes itself as wheelchair accessible. If you use a folding wheelchair, My Winedays asks you to contact it before booking.

Hours this autumn

Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 18:00 until 23 November 2026. On Sundays it opens 10:00 to 18:00 until 30 September, then 10:00 to 17:00. From 24 November, Friday and Saturday run to 19:00.

Frequently asked before you go

How do I book a champagne house visit myself?

On the house's own website. The cheapest visits on their own sites run from €20 at Nicolas Feuillatte and €25 at Mercier to €48 at Moët & Chandon and Pommery, and €90 at Ruinart. Book ahead in summer and check the opening days.

Are the houses open in January and February?

Not all of them. Veuve Clicquot's own site shows it closed for the winter from 28 December 2025 to 7 April 2026. Galaxytour's listings say Moët & Chandon also closes in January and February, though Moët's own page states no closure, so check your date.

Do the tours run on Sundays?

Many do, but check the date. France Intense notes there is no train from Paris for its Reims start on Sundays in July and August. Some houses also close one day a week: Veuve Clicquot, for one, shuts on Mondays outside July and August.

What should I wear in the cellars?

Bring a layer: the chalk cellars stay at 10 to 12 °C all year, at 90 to 100% humidity. Wear flat shoes with grip, because you reach the cellars by stairs and the floors can be damp.
